DID YOU KNOW?
The
City of Lichfield has its' own Morris dances!
The earliest record of Morris dancing in Lichfield found so far is
1747. Records associate the Morris
with Lichfield Bower which dates back to at least 1132. An engraving from about 1780 shows the
Lichfield Whitsun Bower being led by Morris dancers. Throughout the latter part of the eighteenth century morris
dancers performed in Lichfield every Whitsun and Christmas (and on the occasion
of every election).
